Week One!

Hello Folks.

My name is Matt Tenaglia, and I am the director of instrumental music at North Schuylkill. In addition to directing the band program and lessons, I will be teaching music theory, guitar and advanced music theory this year. At this blog, you will find pertinent information regarding all classroom activities and homework. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at mtenaglia@northschuylkill.net.

Guitar:
M - Welcome Back / Distribution of Syllabus
Tu - Begin Learning Rhythmic Notation
Wed - Continue with Rhythmic Notation
Thur - Continue with Rhythm, Begin learning Treble Clef
Fri - Continue with Rhythm and Treble Clef


Music Theory:
M - Welcome Back / Distribution of Syllabus
Tu - Begin working on Chapter 1 pg. 3/4
Wed - Page 4 and 5 - Treble and Bass Clef
Thur - Page 6 and 7 - Grand Staff and Ledger Lines
Fri - Review all material learned with notation


Band:
Tu and Thurs - Have instrument ready to play. We will begin working on Football show music.
There will be after school rehearsal on Tuesday from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
Thursday evening is "Meet the Spartans" - please be in the band room by 5:45pm - the show starts at 7:00pm and will be done by 8:00pm.
Friday is our first game - students will stay after school and rehearse until we depart for Shenandoah. Departure will be announced this week.

Hello Everyone:

Here is the plan of attack for this week.

Music Theory:
Mon: Review for Final Exam
Tue: Review for Final
Wed: Final Exam
- For remaining week, we will be doing some sight-singing.

Guitar:
Mon: Review for Final Exam
Tue: Period 5 Final Exam / Period 1 Review
Wed: Period 1 Exam

- For the remainder of week, the underclassmen will perform songs from ultimate guitar for grades

Band:
- Rehearsal on Tue and Weds after school until 4:30
- Drum Major Auditions, Memorial Day Parade Rehearsal, and Graduation Rehearsal

It is important that you are at both of these rehearsals.

Week of May 13th

Guitar:
Tu and Wed - Wrap up with new songs learned - On Wednesday you will play any song of your choice for your final quiz grade.
Thurs and Fri - Review for Finals - NEXT WEEK! Pd. 1 is Wednesday (5/22), Pd. 5 is Tuesday (5/21)

Music Theory:
Tue - Wrap up compositions
Wed - Fri - Review for Final
Your final is next Wednesday (5/22)

Band:
Concert Week!
Tue - Jazz until 3:10, Concert band until 5:15 - Booster meeting 6:00pm
Thur - Concert 7pm....Be here at 5pm dressed in black and white
Sat - Band Banquet
Next week - Rehearsal Tues Weds Thurs until 4:30 for memorial day / graduation.

Week of May 6th:

Almost at the finish line! Weather is getting nicer, and concerts are rapidly approaching - Do not begin to slack off now!

Guitar:
M - Finish Wonderwall - will pass out Hurt and Wish You Were Here
Tu - Quiz on Wonderwall (in groups of two)
Wed - Practice Hurt - Fingerpicking
Thurs - Practice Wish You Were Here - Tabs
Fri - Pass out Free fallin - practice as a group - then play one of the three songs in preparation for quiz early next week.

Music Theory:
M and Tu - Harmonizing Worksheet - due at end of period on Tues - including all roman numeral analysis and inversion labeling
Wed - Fri - Part Writing and Arranging worksheet.

Band:
After School Rehearsal - Tuesday until 5:00pm
Jazz band - Tuesday 2:34 - 3:10
Call Mrs. Costello to RSVP for the May 18th Band Banquet by Friday May 10th.

Tu - Go back in the book and play three of the previous songs learned with the new strum pattern - QUIZ on Wednesday
Weds - Practice and take Quiz on Syncopated Strum - playing 3 songs of your choice
Thurs - "Teach Your Children" song in the book
Fri - D and A7 chord

Music Theory:
M - Distribute tests back - go over - review for re-test
Tu - Re Test Minor Scales and Minor Triads
Wed - Augmented and Diminished Triads - Homework in Book
Thurs - Worksheet featuring all 4 types of triads
Fri - Ear Training in Book - Sight-Singing from Handouts

Band:
After school this Wednesday from 3:00 - 5:00 - Attendance is Mandatory.
Voting on "Football" marching band show this Tuesday AM in homeroom.
Band Banquet forms are available in Mr. Tenaglia's room.

Tu: Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Guitar 2 - Begin playing in small groups - TEST WEDS
Weds: Test on Can You Feel the Love Tonight - BOTH PARTS
Thurs: Begin Syncopated Strum
Fri - I will be at Junior County Band Festival

Advanced Theory:
M: Review three minor scales - Begin Minor Triads
Tu: Minor Triads - Lesson 58
Weds: Review Major/Minor Triads and Major / Minor Scales
Thurs: Quiz on Maj and Min Triads and Scales

Band:
Junior County Band this week - Bus will depart NSHS Lower Lot on Tues and Thurs at 5:15. Friday at 8:00am and Saturday at 8:25am.

Tuesday night - BOOSTER MEETING at 6pm in the band room.

Thursday - Hoagie making from 315 - 5:00pm - Pick up Hoagies at 5:00pm in the cafe.

Week of April 1st!

Guitar:
Weds - Page 28 "Can You Feel the Love Tonight"
Thurs - Page 29 " Can You Feel the Love Tonight" Part 1 - Be able to play through entire page 28 and part 1 on page 29 by end of class on Thursday
Friday - I will not be here, but there will be a substitute - Make sure you practice page 28-29 and begin learning part 2!


Advanced Music Theory:
Weds - No Homework
Thursday - Natural, Harmonic and Melodic Minor Scales - Do BOTH lessons in the book for Monday
Friday - I will not be here, but there will be substitute - a worksheet that will also be due on Monday will be distributed to help you practice with Minor Scales


Band:
Keep practicing your music - Will distribute our last piece next week "Jersey Boys". There will be Junior County band rehearsal after school on Wednesday and Jazz after school on Thursday.

There is a band parent meeting next Tuesday night at 6:00pm in the band room.

Hoagie Making will take place NEXT THURSDAY in the cafeteria at 3:10.

Junior County Band is already next week at Mahanoy Area! Vans will leave the lower parking lot at 5:15 on Tuesday, 5:30 on Thursday. Both Tuesday and Thursday you should be back around 9:00pm. Friday you will be dismissed after homeroom and return around 4:15. Saturday is the concert, and we will depart the high school at 8:30am. You must have a ride home from the concert (I believe it is at 1:30, but will check next week!)

Advanced Music Theory:
Tu: Review for Unit 13 Exam
Wed: Unit 13 Exam
Thurs: Receive exams back, complete any corrections

Guitar:
Tu: Review Em, C, and G chords
Wed: Test on Eleanor Rigby and "Tell Ol' Bill"
Thurs: Learn Good Riddance - Green Day //// or just play what you would like incorporating the chords we know

BAND:
- Uniform fitting / Rehearsal Tuesday after school until 5:00pm!
- Sixers game this Wednesday - Bus will depart at 2:00pm!
  - Make sure you have $$, your stand music, marching instrument and uniform!

Good Morning Everyone. Here is the schedule for Mr. Tenaglia's courses this upcoming week. Best of luck on Midterm Exams!

Music Theory:
Mon - No Class
Tue - Go over Midterm - Begin Corrections
Wed - Corrections due - Discuss lesson 41 "Dotted 8th Notes"
Thurs - Discuss Lesson 43 and 44 "3/8 and 6/8 Time"
Fri - New Marking Period - Advanced Music Theory - Go over Syllabus and Procedures


Guitar:
Mon - Review for Final Exam
Tue - FINAL EXAM
Wed - Go over final / use the smart board for eMedia
Thurs - Play either pop tunes / stuff from the book / or eMedia - Whichever you like.
Fri - New Marking Period - Go over Syllabus and Procedures

Band:
Excellent job with the National Anthem this past Friday at the Wilkes Barre Penguins Game.
This week we will rehearse during 7th period on Tuesday and Thursday.
Students attending Lebanon Valley College Honors band - we will depart right after dismissal on Friday.
