Week of 1/25

Hello folks:

Here is what is happening this week in the music department:

Music 8:
M: review of 7th grade material Renaissance, Baroque Pd.
Tu: continue with Baroque pd notes, worksheet
Wed: Begin classical period / Haydn
Tr: read classical period essay / worksheet
Fri: Go over worksheet, listen and anaylze music from Haydn

Music Theory:
M-Fri: work on sightsinging examples, solfege names, and transfer our sight singing skills into melodic dictations.

Band:
M, W, F: Small Band Class
Tu, Tr: Large Band Class

Band practice after school from 310-430 on Tuesday.

Any student interested in taking private lessons should contact Mr. Tenaglia for a time after school.

Week of January 19th

Week of January 19th:

Music Theory:
Tu- Midterm
Wed - Make-up - turn in any late items
Tr - First day of Advanced Music Theory - We will start with some ear training assignments and attempt more melodic dictations today and Friday.

8 Music:
Tu - Final presentation make-ups
Wed - Listen to music from the romantic period
Tr - First day new marking period - Go over syllabus, do introduction activity
Fri - Discussion and listening to music from the Reinassance period

Band:
We will start rehearsing during band class this week - The first after school band rehearsal will be January 25th from 3:10 - 4:30pm and every Tuesday thereafter. - Please be prompt.

Week of January 11th

Band Class-
Continue organizing the music library and your midterm exam.
Period 1 exam will be Wednesday.
Period 7 exam will be Thursday.
If you have a gym class alternating with band class, please come to band first.

8th Music:
M: Nationalism and Impressionism
Tu: Reading across the curriculum
Period 3 your final presentation will be Friday
Period 6 your final presentation will be Thursday.

Music Theory:
M: review for Unit 12 quiz
Tu: Test of Unit 12
W: reading across the curriculum assignment
Tr: Review units 1-6
Fri: Review units 7-12
Your midterm is Tuesday.

Week of January 4th - January 8th

Welcome back folks! Here is the schedule for this week:

All Band Classes:
While we are waiting on the arrival of the spring music we will be working on our music library organizing it, and trying to make an electronic database of pieces that we have.

Music Theory:
Here is the nitty gritty - Triads, Chords, Chord Functions, 7th Chords - I'm excited...I hope you are too.
M - Learn about M triads, maybe some minor
T - Scale degree names and more practice on triads
W - Learn about the V-7 chord, function and how it relates to the tonic
Tr - Ear training and review for unit 12
F - Test Unit 12

Music 8
We begin the romantic period this week
M - Early romantic period - Berlioz, Schubert, Schumann
Tu - Early Romantic period - art song - Clara Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Mendelsshon
Wed - Early Romantic Opera - Italian Opera - Rossini, Verdi, Puccini
Tr - Early Romantic Opera - German and French - Bizet, Weber, Wagner
Fri - Listen and analyzing early romantic program music, art songs, and aria's from Operas
